Promisero Academy
(The Crowns of Thalias, No. 1)

What if our hero wasn’t the Boy Who Lived, but the Girl Who Inconveniently Survived?

On the eve of a coming-of-age ceremony that will determine her magical powers, thirteen-year-old Ariana Seaborne’s life is suddenly changed forever. When a mysterious fire engulfs her home, she becomes orphaned and is spirited away to Promisero Academy, an exclusive school of magic in the city of Port AuCaul.

In this unfamiliar environment she finds allies as she struggles with her grief, her fears that she was responsible for the tragedy, and her inability to use her elusive powers. She is chosen for the Queen's Ladies, a group of young women who assist the queen, but when the political landscape changes, an attempted kidnapping thrusts her and her new friends into the fight of their lives.

Promisero Academy is the first book in the Crowns of Thalias series.

Reviews

"...this first installment effectively leans into its genre elements, from compelling creatures (such as sprixies and fluffy, griffinlike gyrefells) to displays of magic as students take classes in all five of the known Talents, including fire and water. The young hero of this charming, series-starting tale of magic will easily win readers over. " -Kirkus Reviews (Full Review Here)

"A magical girl transitions from childhood to adolescence while recovering from grief and trauma in the involving fantasy novel Promisero Academy...The book’s imagery is evocative, and its descriptions of how it feels to catch magic hold attention...distinguishing itself from the familiar setup of a school of magic via its detailed worldbuilding and political intrigue."
-Foreword Clarion Reviews, 4 out of 5 stars (Full Review Here)
